It's always fun to be downtown in historic Golden, Colorado, on the first Friday evening of each month when the shops are open late and the merchants sponsor special events and entertainment. I'm writing this on Sunday, and the weather forecasters are predicting 1 to 2 inches of snow for us overnight, but then it clears up and by Friday the weather should be mid-40s and beautiful -- perfect for an evening out in Golden.
On First Friday, there are free horse-drawn carriage rides (catch them at the corner of Washington and 12th St. by the Old Capitol Grill), as well as special events, entertainment, and refreshments in many of the shops. Downtown is full of interesting, one-of-a-kind shops and great restaurants to please a wide variety of tastes and budgets. In addition, Friday will be the last day of Denver Restaurant Week, and several of our downtown restaurants are participating, featuring multi-course menus for $52.80 per couple or $26.40 for one.
There's always plenty of parking downtown in the parking garages on Jackson Street, and you never have to worry about time limits or feeding a meter.
You can take a look at a series of interactive maps of the downtown area that show the locations, contact information, and websites for downtown businesses, so you can see how interesting Golden is. You can easily find out what's going on in town here. And our Dove Inn Bed & Breakfast website has a Local Attractions page with lots of useful links.
Hope to see you in Golden soon. Thanks for reading my Innkeeper's Blog!
