Ladies Only Sample Tour -- May 7 in Golden

One of the coolest events in Golden last year was our first Ladies Only Sample Tour (known as LOST), and we're doing it again this year. To participate, you must buy a bracelet in advance for $12.50 from a participating merchant. Then on the evening of Thursday, May 7, you can visit the 40 shops and businesses that are part of the tour and get free samples and refreshments. It's a fabulous Girls' Getaway, and you go home with a bag full of goodies you've collected from our downtown merchants.

Last year we partnered with Body Mechanics Therapeutic Massage. While we gave tours of our B&B, Jim and Monica gave free chair massages in our inn's living room. What a treat! Everyone who visited the inn also received a free sample of ESA body lotion. The picture on the right above shows a happy LOST Lady entering our inn's front door.

This year, we aren't able to participate because the event is scheduled the evening before Colorado School of Mines graduation, so all of our rooms are booked. But even though you won't be able to tour the inn, I know you'll have a ball visiting the other merchants in Golden. And several of the massage therapists are getting together to give those wonderful free chair massages again, too.

Stay! Lie Down! Benefit Homeless Animals

April 13, 2009

"Stay!" at the Dove Inn Bed & Breakfast any of these nights -- April 30, May 1, or May 2 -- and we will donate 25% of our revenue to the Table Mountain Animal Shelter to help them care for homeless pets.

Our Official Inn Dog, Meghan (shown here), who was rescued from a shelter herself, would love to meet you that weekend.

Enjoy a getaway in Golden for a good cause. There's so much to do here, so many great restaurants and shops and museums, that we know you'll have a fun night or two or three while helping us make a difference for homeless animals. May 1 is Golden's First Friday, when shops are open late and have special events. The downtown merchants sponsor free horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown that evening.

Whether you come Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, we will pamper you with our wonderful Denver Mattresses and our hearty home-cooked breakfasts. (Please leave your own pets at home, as we don't have facilities for them.)

Please visit our website, http://www.doveinn.com/, where you can see pictures and descriptions of our rooms, check availability, and make a reservation request. Or call us at 303-278-2209.
We hope to write a big check to Table Mountain Animal Shelter on May 4 -- help us make that a reality.

Our New Official Inn Dog

April 2, 2009

This is Meghan, our new Official Inn Dog, whom we adopted from Wyoming Border Collie Rescue (WBCR) this past Sunday. The rescue folks estimate that she is about three years old, and she's a border collie/rough collie (as in Lassie) mix.

Meghan evidently belonged to an elderly person in Kansas whose dementia had progressed to the point that she couldn't be taken care of anymore, so the family turned her in to the animal shelter. The wonderful folks at WBCR rescued her and put her in a foster home in Colorado until she could be adopted. In the last month or so, Meghan's gone from her home to a shelter to a foster home to us, so she's a little confused about whether she's really here to stay. But we keep trying to convince her that she is.

She's a very sweet dog who loves to meet new people -- which is a good thing, since many of our guests miss their own pets and enjoy having a "dog fix" after breakfast when they stay at our inn. She doesn't seem to have had much in the way of obedience training in her previous life, so we're working on that, but she's a smart dog and is picking up good manners quickly.

If you're interested in learning about the good work that WBCR does, take a look at their website, http://www.wybcrescue.org/.

We have a new partnership with our local theater

February 22, 2009

We're excited to announce a new partnership between the Dove Inn Bed & Breakfast and Golden's wonderful local theater, Miners Alley Playhouse. If you stay at our Inn and attend a play at Miners Alley, you'll receive a 25% discount on your theater tickets. That means your tickets are only $15 each. Just let us know when you make your reservation that you want to include Miners Alley Playhouse tickets, and we'll take care the arrangements.

Miners Alley is a wonderful, intimate theater space where you'll experience first-rate productions. They perform on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m., except for the closing Sunday of a run, when the performance is at 2 p.m. The theater is just a little more than a block away from the Inn, and is walking distance from the many great downtown Golden restaurants where you can have a pre-theater meal.

We've seen several productions at Miners Alley, and they are always a pleasure. Even if you don't decide to spend a night with us in Golden, we hope you'll check out Miners Alley.

For reservations at the Dove Inn Bed and Breakfast, please visit our website, http://www.doveinn.com/. For more information about what's playing at Miner's Alley Playhouse, visit their website, http://www.minersalley.com/.

What Happens When Innkeepers Go On Vacation?

January 21, 2009

Bill and I are leaving tomorrow for a two-week vacation, and our wonderful professional innsitters, KC and Kirk Worrall, will arrive this evening to take over for us while we're gone.
Innsitting (or interim innkeeping, as some prefer to call it) is a fairly new career. Most innsitters have owned or managed an inn at some point. They come to a client's property and run it just the way the owner/innkeeper would. Many of our repeat guests have told us how wonderful KC and Kirk are -- some even tell us we should go away more often... :-)

It's great to be able to go off on vacation and know that our business is in very capable hands. Getting away once in a while to relax and refresh ourselves keeps us smiling, as in this photo by Paula, one of our guests.

KC and Kirk's website is http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/. Check out our Dove Inn Bed & Breakfast website at http://www.doveinn.com/.
